Smoothhead Helmeted Basilisk (Corytophanes_cristatus) 1547 Helmeted basilisks perch inconspicuously on rainforest tree trunks and lianas, relying on their camouflage to avoid detection. Their red eyes, dark eye markings, and head casque afford them a grotesque appearance that belies their gentle nature. They eat beetle larvae and other insects.
